• DSX-3 equipment forms a centralised cross-connect (distribution frame) for digital signals
• Used for DS3 (44.736 Mbps) or STS-1 (51.84 Mbps) digital signal rates
• Provides cable termination, jack access, and cross-connect functions in a coaxial-based broadband network
• Each network element is permanently cabled to a separate DSX-3 module
• Any network element may be connected to any other network element in a non-dedicated manner by means of a semipermanent cross-connect jumper between two DSX-3 modules
• LEDs at each DSX module identify the network elements that are cross-connected together
• DS3 signals are accessed through the IN, OUT, and MONITOR jacks at each DSX module for testing and patching operations
