Standards and Transmission Characteristics
- AS/NZS 3080 and ISO 11801 requirements for Optical Fibre
- Fresnel, Power loss and transmission loss
- Wavelength of Operation distance - bandwidth limitations
Optical Transmission Systems and Components
- Calculating power loss budgets
- Allowable link losses for horizontal/backbone/campus cabling
- Laser and LED advantages/disadvantages
- Connector standardation, termination/break-out panels
Installation Practices
- Direct termination using LC, SC & ST connectors
- Splicing - fusion and mechanical
- Essential safety practices and cable handling
Testing
- 1 & 3-Test Cord method of LSPM referencing
- Compliance testing using AS/NZS IEC 14763-3
- Power loss and Optical Time Domain Reflectometer testing
- Fault finding
Practical Exercises
- Direct termination of loose-tube and tight buffered OF cable using LC & SC
- Termination using pigtail fusion splicing

- Written knowledge examination
Outcome
ADC KRONE Master Installer Certificate of Competency and National Competency ICTTC 009D. Competency certificates provide 14 CEC points towards BICSI RCDD and INSTALL programs
